Don't view this as a family-opposed or favoritism issue. Generally, such situations stem from generational conflict. You mentioned it looks flashy; for your mother, those types of gifts might mean 'luxury.' Perhaps she sees them as expensive and perceives it as pressure to take your relationship seriously. It would be helpful to clearly state that this is not the case.
