Will going to therapy upset my family?

I've been feeling increasingly anxious lately, and honestly, it's affecting my life. But in our family, going to therapy is still seen as a shameful thing, and they immediately say things like "what's wrong with you?" If I take such a step for my own well-being, would that be selfish? Do you think it's worth it?

When exactly did these concerns start, for example? Is there a specific event or period connected to them? Because sometimes, when we notice what triggers these feelings, it becomes possible to try different approaches.

I think it's very common for families to think this way, but no one is the same as before anymore. Getting therapy is not a sign of something being wrong; it means you're taking care of yourself. It's quite a logical thing.

I experienced the same thing; my people were also brushing it off with "what's the need?" But at some point, I couldn't even sleep, so I went to a therapist and started. At first, I had a hard time getting them to accept it, but if you relax, they'll see it too.

But I will ask you something, do you really tell your family everything or do you judge them upfront and withdraw? Maybe you don't fully understand their thoughts, or perhaps the way you explain is problematic.

If you say that your worries are affecting your daily life, this should not be taken lightly. Therapy is helpful for learning coping strategies and finding relaxation. But it would be good to discuss your situation in detail with a professional first.

Let me update you; actually, this process has intensified over the past 3-4 months. There isn't a specific event that feels triggering, but it feels like something is constantly about to happen, or that I might end up in a bad situation. It’s true that I'm also hesitant to speak openly with my family.

My daughter, life is ultimately yours. If my daughter were in such a situation, I would want her to go even if she was upset. Family will be fine as long as you're okay; don't worry about their initial reaction. You can sweetly explain everything later.

But I think it's such thoughts that weaken family ties. Now you mention that there's a trend called 'therapy', but what were people doing before? Wouldn't it be better to find a solution that doesn't upset your family?
