My aunt shared a photo of my girlfriend in the group

I was at a birthday party for a friend with my girlfriend. My aunt was there too, and she took a photo at that moment and sent it to my mom. Then my mom opened the subject by asking, 'Is this relationship serious?' I was thinking about how to explain it, and suddenly everyone knew. Now they're constantly asking me, 'Why did we learn about this so late?' Especially my mom is starting to question whether we are serious, what her family thinks, etc. I couldn't really say anything to my aunt; her intentions are not bad, but I'm annoyed that my personal life is being interfered with so much. How do you think I should handle this situation?

Aunt, after all, is important, so you had to be careful not to hang out with your partner around her. Families are right to question whether this is serious. If you're thinking about taking the step to marriage, you introduce your partner to the family appropriately, and everyone finds out. But when things are kept secret like this, people feel excluded. Honestly, I suggest you think before getting upset with your aunt.

Why did your aunt share the photo directly with your mom instead of in the group? I think she might have cut to the chase just to avoid any trouble. Also, how did your mom suspect enough to ask if she was being serious? Had you ever given any hints before?

@mantikci1 actually this isn’t the first time, they had mentioned it a couple of times before when we were hanging out as friends, but it passed. This time, when the photo was obvious, my mom caught on!

@tradkadin Really? Do we still have to hide our loved ones as women in front of the elders in 2023? I don't understand how much longer we're going to continue with this old mindset. Is this really the measure of being moral?!

Family and romantic relationship discussions are quite common. Here, I think you need to set a clear boundary. You can say, 'Yes, I have a partner, and our intentions are serious,' but you don't have to get bogged down in details. You should answer their questions politely but clearly so that they understand this matter is under your control. Otherwise, they will question every step.

I think there's only one mistake here: you not speaking openly. Look, your mom is right when she says: 'Why did we learn it so late?' Instead of getting mad at your aunt, if you had expressed this seriousness at the beginning, everyone would be comfortable right now.

Why did we declare the aunt a guilty party? She just took a photo; if the incident hadn't gone viral, it wouldn't have been an issue. You're approaching this from the wrong angle.

@huysuz In the tournament of "hiding your partner from the aunt radar in 2023," Turkey is the champion again. Congratulations!
