I dress cheap but stylish, and my friends are making remarks.

Recently, it seems like everyone I follow on Instagram is constantly shopping from expensive brands. Meanwhile, I'm trying to find affordable yet stylish pieces. They usually ask about the price of my clothes and comment "that's cheap," which really annoys me. Do you think the brand is more important, or is it all about style? Have you ever experienced something like this?

Sweetheart, listen to me. I didn't have designer bags when I was young either; I just decorated my market bag and carried it around. But believe me, people don't look at you and think 'what brand is that'; they think 'how great does that look on you.' Don't feel like you owe anyone an explanation; just buy what looks good on you.

I've been in a similar situation. At one point, there was a lot of chatting in my friend group about 'is this Zara, or is this Mango?' I had bought a trench coat from the market, and the girls criticized it a lot, but then when they saw the same one in a different brand, they asked me 'did you get that new?' The brand doesn't matter, it's about the combination.

But if people are asking about the price of your outfit now, maybe you are explaining it a bit too much or going overboard with your explanations. If there's something that makes them say "it's cheap" and annoys you, then perhaps you are setting the stage for this, could it be? If you brushed it off directly, there wouldn't be any discussion.

Fashion consultants usually advise to focus more on the fabric and fit of the piece rather than the brand. In other words, what you buy might be affordable, but if there are no stitching errors and the cut is good, it can look stylish anyway. The main issue is how you use the piece.

I also want to add that I actually don’t show this situation much. For example, when they don’t ask for the price, I never say it, but if they insist on asking, like 'how much did you buy it for,' then it becomes weird to hide it. I find myself stuck in such a dilemma.

Let me be honest, I think they're a bit jealous of you. When a person dresses safely, they don't even look at the brand. These comments are usually made out of the 'mine is more expensive' ego. But of course, don't worry too much; after all, it's just a group judging you by your clothing 😬
