Friends, Iâm literally experiencing something like a joke. A very close friend of mine shares things that I post on my Instagram stories a couple of days later, in exactly the same style! For example, the other day I shared a song, and the next day she posted a story with the exact same song. Itâs not just the songs, but places, book recommendations, and so on are always the same. Could this be a coincidence, or should I think that sheâs doing it on purpose? Do you think I should ask her directly about it, or am I overreacting?

8What kind of logic is this! Itâs okay to share the same song, but if the book recommendation and place are the same too, itâs getting a bit weird. It feels like theyâre directly imitating you. I think you should just ask them, âHey, are you aware that youâre doing such-and-such?â You could maybe phrase it a bit gently.
I swear my friend did something like that too. They must be inspired, and if you have a good relationship, I donât think itâs malicious. But if it continues and bothers you, be direct and say, âYouâre doing the same thing, and I donât like it.â
I think youâre exaggerating. How right is it to attribute intentions to someone based on small things? They might also like the song, the place is popular, or the book recommendation might seem similar? Besides, when shared, itâs a common opinion; people see it and get influenced ![]()
Such situations can be explained in social psychology through mimicry and mirroring behavior. Your friend may be unconsciously taking you as a model. If it bothers you, it would be healthier to talk to them directly, but without being accusatory.
As you said, I asked without showing that I was uncomfortable, âIt feels strange to me that we share some things the same way.â She replied, âOh, I had no idea,â but her facial expression was quite the opposite. It was as if she was doing it on purpose.
Honestly, friends should be sincere but not exact copies. In the past, such things would be frowned upon; everyone would develop their own style. Handle this topic without anyone in your family hearing, so if it causes any issues later, it wonât create problems between you.
I think thereâs something else going on underneath. For instance, they might be jealous of you or want to draw attention. After all, they see how everyone reacts to you and might be calculating that theyâll get the same treatment.
I think you should speak directly and clearly, so itâs understood whether the problem will be solved or not. Say, âAre you aware that youâre sharing the same things? It makes me uncomfortable.â If things donât change, set your distance; thereâs no point in dragging it out any longer.
