I can't stand someone eating sweets next to me

As someone who is careful about healthy eating at dinner, I was startled by my friend's choice to eat dessert. Honestly, I lost my appetite for the vegetables I had in my hand. Then I started to grumble, saying things like, 'What do you understand by eating dessert?' But this didn't make me happy at all; on the contrary, I became tense. I'm thinking about how we should continue without bothering each other. Is there a rift between us on this matter?

I experienced the same thing. When I was on a diet, I would seriously suffer a crisis whenever dessert was eaten around me. I told my friends not to eat it in front of me. At first, it was a problem, but they eventually showed understanding, so it can be resolved through communication.

Why does my sweet eating affect you so much? I mean, there’s really nothing here that directly concerns you 😅

@yazipsildim you're right, but just looking at food really challenges me while dieting. Plus, this isn't the first time; it always happens.

I think it's really silly to tell your friends not to eat next to you. Is everyone supposed to organize their lives around you? If you go into a crisis when you see sweets, that's a different problem 🙄

It's normal to encounter triggering situations while dieting, but if you are feeling constantly tense, the issue may be behavioral. I recommend seeking psychological support alongside a nutritionist. A suitable plan can be developed for challenging environments.

@pazardandondum but isn't it normal to ask for support while dieting? Not everyone is dealing with it, so they could show a little sensitivity.

Well, nobody has to live according to anyone else, but friendship is a bit about this too. Both of you should compromise, otherwise, it seems like these little issues grow larger 🤦‍♀️

I think you should speak clearly. You don't have to say that they shouldn't eat beside you, but just say that you're having a hard time. If they notice, they'll pay attention 🙄

If you're so affected by seeing sweets, the problem might not be with them eating, but with your own self-control. Why are you struggling so much? Are you staying hungry or is your diet plan problematic? I think you should question that.

A diet shouldn't stress you this much. If you constantly feel this discomfort, either the method is wrong or the expectations are. If your eyes light up at the sight of sweets, it means there is still a part of you that thinks, "I have to eat this." So, trying to control your environment without resolving that reflex is futile. It won't work in the long run.

If you're so sensitive to sweets, have you ever tried making your own alternative and taking it with you? That way, you'll have something to eat, and you won't experience a crisis at that moment. Instead of completely ignoring sweets, you could try to approach them with healthier solutions.
