I went to the doctor for my persistent acne and he prescribed a few medical products. Iām using them, and it seems like thereās some progress, but my aunt keeps saying every time she sees me, āStop those medications, old timers used to fix this with toothpaste.ā She even told my sister, āDonāt interfere, those modern things will ruin her skin.ā When everyone in the family started looking for traditional solutions, I felt bad. Have people around you ever said things like that?

9I think your aunt might be right. You trust modern products, but did we have this many chemicals in the past? We used to solve things at home with natural methods. They say lemon peel, and it really worked. So, thereās no need to spend so much money and harm your skin.
Let me just say, donāt stop taking the medication prescribed by your doctor. Even if it didnāt work, you should go back to the doctor and explain the situation. And tell your sister-in-law politely that everyoneās skin type is different. Also, putting toothpaste on your face dries out the skin; itās not that easy.
Why bother messing around with things like putting on toothpaste when you could go to the doctor? Just getting the appointment, finding the prescription at the pharmacy, and taking those medications regularly is a job in itself. You need to explain this to your aunt.
As a healthcare worker, I can say that toothpaste can have an abrasive effect on the skin. It may irritate the area with the pimple. Make sure to complete the treatment your doctor recommended. If you see progress, definitely donāt stop.
@pratik_melis I can understand you, but itās hard to explain things to my sister-in-law. The doctor already said to take the medication regularly, but my sister-in-law thinks they are just āmaking money off us.ā Plus, it seems like my mom is giving her some credit too.
@gelenekci_ayse old methods are in the past. You say lemon peel, toothpaste, but those burn the skin. If you had really tried them, you wouldnāt speak so easily. I think you should not interfere in peopleās lives ![]()
I think there might be another reason why your aunt is being so insistently. Maybe she finds the medication from the doctor expensive, or perhaps she has tried such things in the past and had bad results. You would feel more at ease if you directly told her and prevented her from getting so involved.
My mom even once said, āYou can handle pimples just like whitening your teeth with baking sodaā at home. But looking at it, why are we going through all this when we have modern medicine? I also see a lot on social media that you shouldnāt try it with toothpaste; apparently, there can be bad results.
Honestly, itās a family business. Even if you do something right, there will always be someone who insists it should be done differently. But you can tell your mom, āWould a doctor recommend something unchecked?ā Maybe then theyāll back off a bit.
