Friends, I found a job at a nice company but the office is on the Asian side, and I have to leave by bus at 6 a.m. My mom says, ‘Look at her, who knows who she’ll be with on the road at that hour…’ My dad said, ‘Pick a job close to home; if you get into trouble, I’m not coming to help.’ But this really feels like the opportunity of my dreams! What should I do? Should I listen to my family or trust myself?
A friend of mine said this to me: ‘You’ll leave at 6 in the morning, but your mom will wake up in a cold sweat.’ Honestly, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Yours is just the same; moms always worry. But whatever you do, play it safe, the road at 6 in the morning can be quite dangerous.
I had experienced this situation a lot with my parents too. I had woken up a little earlier than my departure time and made a couple of test runs to see if the roads were calm. Thanks to those trials, they were a bit more relaxed. But still, be careful while preparing your bag and things for security.
I think your dad might be right. You’re leaving at 6 a.m., waiting for public transport… Nobody wants anything bad to happen to them. Wouldn’t it make more sense to find a job closer to home? Why this job specifically?
If you are taking the bus at 6 a.m., make sure to check the route carefully. That means if there are dark or isolated areas, take precautions. For example, share your location with a friend or family member in case of an emergency. This will help minimize your anxiety a bit.
Let me add that my mom always says, especially this season when everyone is on the bus with their big coats, ‘you never know who or what is there.’ But I’ve always thought I could just set the alarms for 5:30 and head straight out of the house. I’m still confused.
But why didn’t you research the safety of that route before saying it’s 6 in the morning? Everyone seems to blame your family, but did you plan the necessities of the job? You’ve found a nice opportunity, but do some exploring first.
I think there’s something else going on here. It might be your dream, but why are your mom and dad reacting this way? Maybe they don’t trust someone else; haven’t you talked about the work environment and stuff before? ![]()
My office is in Kağıthane, I leave at 5:30 a.m. I was really panicking the first week, but after observing a bit, I relaxed. Once you start, you’ll get used to it too, but just in case, make a list of emergency numbers and keep it with you.
If things go as your father said, who will save you if you get into trouble during those hours? Loving your job is one thing, but I think safety is more important. There’s no point in upsetting your family.
