My friend posted my test on their story, are they making fun of me?

Last week I showed a pregnancy test I took to my close friend; it was negative and I felt relieved. But last night she posted a photo of the box on her story and wrote “December surprises”! I don’t know why she shared something so personal; is she making fun of me or exposing me? Should I confront her or stay quiet to avoid messing up our friendship?

I think you should speak directly. Ask why they shared something so special to your face. If they say they’re just joking around or something, say this clearly: ‘This is my private matter, it can’t be material for your humor.’ Otherwise, they’ll keep doing similar things :slightly_smiling_face:

First of all, it’s very important to establish your stance in this matter. If you remain silent on such issues, it will only lead to worse things. Friendship is built on respect. I suggest you speak openly, without raising your voice.

Come on, why are you showing a pregnancy test to a close friend? Is this really such essential information? After all, it’s your private matter, and I think it wouldn’t be like this if you hadn’t acted so casually from the start.

This actually seems like a boundary violation. Normally, in close friendships, everyone should have their own personal space. But brushing it off by saying you were joking actually shows a lack of awareness about such boundaries. I think you should express this when talking: ‘What bothers me is that you don’t take something personal seriously.’

Update: I asked my friend, and he said, ‘That test isn’t yours, I was just joking, don’t think too much about it.’ But it was obviously mine, and he was next to me when I showed the box. He just passed by again saying, ‘I was just kidding’ and stuff.

I love that “I’m just messing with you” conversation. If the same thing were done to him, he’d be sulking until morning. Come on, there’s clearly a lack of respect here. He’s still trying to brush it off as a joke.

Something similar happened to me. When I was in university, my friend read a secret thing of mine (I had taken a note on my phone) and then told it as a joke in a coffee setting. I literally didn’t see him for 6 months because he didn’t take it seriously. Nothing changed without confronting it.
