Is sleeping with socks on bad for your health or just an urban legend?

I’ve been sleeping in socks for years; my mom constantly scolds me, saying, ‘You’ll sweat your feet, you’ll get sick.’ But honestly, I feel cold without socks. Everyone online says something different; some say it disrupts blood circulation, while others say it keeps you warm and is good for you. Am I at fault, or is this completely made up? Do you think we really need to be careful about sleeping in socks?

I also sleep with socks on because my feet get really cold when I go to bed. But I’ve noticed something: if the socks are too tight, I wake up with my feet feeling numb in the morning. Right now, I’m comfortable with looser, cotton socks. Maybe you could pay attention to your sock choice too.

I had quite a debate about socks for a while. My mom used to say, ‘Your feet are always sweaty, they will smell and you’ll get germs.’ But when I sleep without socks, my feet feel like they’re made of stone, cold. I tried it for a while, and it turns out there are special creams for feet that keep them warm. They really helped. Now I can sleep without socks.

I mean, sorry, but I can kind of see your mom’s point. If you’re sleeping with socks on, you’re not really letting your feet breathe all night long. If you experience sweating or circulation issues, you can’t really blame anyone, to be honest. I think if you give it a little effort, you could get used to not wearing socks too.

I’m not a doctor on the subject of sleeping with socks, but I can contribute this: it completely depends on the type of socks, the person’s skin type, and the temperature of the environment. Tight, synthetic socks can affect circulation, but there shouldn’t be an issue with cotton and breathable socks. If you have sweating problems, you can consult a dermatologist.

By the way, I noticed that I can’t sleep through the night without socks. But if my feet are too hot with socks on, I feel uncomfortable. I tried it out and it seems I sleep more comfortably with thin socks. But do I take them off when I sweat? Yes, sometimes I wake up without realizing it and find I’ve kicked off my socks.

Now, the habit of sleeping with socks is somewhat related to how you were raised at home. In the past, elders always said, ‘it’s not good to sleep with socks, it’ll make you sick.’ The new generation doesn’t care about these rules, and then they say, ‘why do I wake up sick in the morning?’ I think you should listen to your mother; she’s not saying it for no reason.

You know that feeling of being cold without socks? Yeah, it’s so annoying. That shivering starts in bed, and no matter how warm the bed is, it just doesn’t stop. I put socks on my feet, and when I wake up in the morning, I find socks or slippers or something in there. It’s such a familiar situation.

A friend once told me: ‘If you sleep with socks on, you’ll even find your dreams boring.’ It’s utterly ridiculous, but I still feel uneasy if I sleep with socks on. Pure nonsense, but hey, it affects you
