My period is a week late, but honestly, I think I might be stressing out about it. Still, it’s been on my mind, and I’ve been torn between whether to go get a test or not. What if it’s real? Or what if the test gives a false result? Is going to the doctor the solution? What do you think I should do?

9I think it’s easier to take a test. I took one when my period was 10 days late, and it came out positive, but at least I felt relieved. It gives you at least some idea before seeing the doctor.
Pregnancy tests give 99% accurate results when used correctly. If you take it with your first urine in the morning, the result will be clearer. But if you want a definitive result, seeing a doctor is essential. A blood test is the most reliable method.
The excitement of opening that package when you bring the test home literally tightens your stomach. If you think you can’t handle that moment, just go to the doctor, so it won’t be on your mind.
You don’t need to stress this much, don’t feel guilty. It’s ultimately a matter concerning your body, going to the doctor or getting tests done is entirely your decision. You have the right to seek information, you don’t have to please anyone.
Let me add that I’m afraid I might run into someone while taking the test. The neighborhood is small, and news spreads quickly. That’s why I’m a bit indecisive; I appreciate your understanding.
As soon as you said the neighborhood is small, I got a suspicion. Who are you hiding from or who are you afraid of? It seems to me that there’s another issue here, but you know best, of course.
Then order a test online instead of from the pharmacy. You’ll remain anonymous. Or you can ask a friend you trust for help; they can get it for you.
A week has gone by, but if you’re still undecided about whether to take the test, it suggests that you’re stalling a bit or scared of finding out the result. Gather your courage and make a decision already.
You say the neighborhood is small, okay, but isn’t the outcome more serious when you find out? If you’re married, it would be healthier to be open with your spouse; if not, at least with someone in your family. These things can’t be resolved by hiding.
