When I got home, I went to the bathroom, took the test, but I had to put it in my bag without even looking at the result. We live with my mother-in-law, so I thought I’d keep it a secret so she wouldn’t say anything. It turns out I left the test stick in the bathroom, not the bag. It was put back in my bag in the evening; she didn’t say anything, but I’m sure she noticed. How do you think I should act? I already have a somewhat distant relationship with her.

8I had a similar experience. It wasn’t a test, but my mother-in-law rummaged through the trash and figured it out from the packages. Then she didn’t confront me directly, but she implied it. So in your situation, I think she wouldn’t talk about it but would keep it inside.
Have you checked the test results? I mean, is there anything definitive about the situation right now?
I still haven’t looked at it yet, it’s still in the bag, and since I couldn’t say anything, it just stayed like that 
I don’t think she can hold back; she’ll definitely say something in some way. Either while eating or in between. It varies from woman to woman, though.
It’s already hard to interrupt someone living with a mother-in-law. I think the best course of action in this situation is to have an open conversation. Don’t say anything until the pregnancy is confirmed, but you can gently explain that the test was forgotten in the bathroom and that there could be misunderstandings.
I think the biggest problem right now isn’t the test, but living together in the same house while being this distant. Everything gets mixed up in a situation like this.
If they didn’t say ‘do you have a good job’, be grateful.
If they took it into their hands, it may give incorrect results. Get a new one; if there’s something certain, it’s essential to talk about it, but I suggest you talk to your partner first.
