Gossip at work is suffocating me

My coworkers are gossiping about me and my boss is listening to it. I haven’t felt comfortable at all lately and honestly, I don’t understand why. So what is this gossip frenzy? It’s causing problems in my work, what am I supposed to do now? How should I stand up to them?

I experienced something similar at work a while ago. Just because of one person’s fabrication, my manager had started to act coldly towards me; it was a terrible situation.

Has your boss asked you anything about these rumors? I mean, are they just listening and deciding completely?

@cokdaseyapma no, they didn’t ask me anything at all. They just look at me as if I’m doing something wrong. But they don’t say anything clearly either.

I think you seem a bit passive too. The moment you realize something like this is happening, you wouldn’t just sit quietly, you could go and ask what’s going on.

I think you need to go and talk to your boss directly. There’s something going on around you, and you should clearly say that you feel uncomfortable. Maybe they don’t even realize it. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

That’s how workplaces are, you know. Instead of doing their jobs, people are constantly gossiping and causing trouble. And the bosses, well, they sure love to listen. It’s tragicomic :joy:

Such things are very common in working life. It’s generally a matter of power balance. If the rumors are clearly causing harm, you should consider reporting it to upper management or human resources. Just know that these things happen frequently in the workplace.

this gossip situation won’t end. it’s the same everywhere.

You’re going to go talk to the boss, but have you found the source of the gossip? It’s risky to act without knowing who said what. Don’t put yourself in a position of suspicion for no reason.

Do you know the content of the rumors? If there’s something clear, you can take action based on that. I mean, if you start talking without having any cards to play just because of tense looks, it could backfire even worse.

If you’re going to fight gossip, you need to understand who you’re dealing with first. Now you say someone is not saying anything but is looking at me, but what if there’s really nothing going on? It can be perceived as a direct accusation, so let’s just check a little first and see what comes up
