I have a lot of headaches, my blood pressure is rising. I’m trying to hide this situation at work, but my boss keeps saying, ‘You should see a doctor, you don’t look so good.’ The workload is heavy, and my manager has been increasing the pressure lately. Do you think I might really have a health issue, or is this just stressing me out? I can’t figure out if they want me to quit.

9It’s highly likely that, as you said, stress is the cause, but headaches and fluctuating blood pressure shouldn’t be taken lightly. My mom had similar issues; she thought it was sinusitis, but it turned out to be a thyroid problem. I think you should make an appointment with an internist; it would be a precaution.
I experienced the same situation; I was always dizzy because of the workload. My boss had also sent me to the doctor; I was angry at first, but then I thought about it, and it turned out he was looking out for my well-being. Maybe there was no bad intention in your case either.
What kind of logic is this? Why would a guy want to fire you just because he says ‘go see a doctor’? Would it be better if you collapsed at work? You know you have a health issue; I think you’re just overthinking it because of work. You’ve blown it out of proportion.
Headaches and spikes in blood pressure can be caused by a physical issue, but work stress can also trigger these symptoms. If it’s happening frequently, I definitely recommend seeing a specialist in internal medicine or neurology. It’s clear that the workload and pressure from your boss are tiring you out, so you might need to talk about this openly.
Friends, thanks for the comments. Honestly, I can’t be sure about the guy’s intentions. Because he criticized my performance last week, then said, ‘If it continues like this, you won’t last long.’ Is he doing me a favor, or is he setting the stage to get rid of me? I can’t figure it out.
So, have you ever seen a doctor before? For example, is your blood pressure constantly high, or does it only increase during certain periods? Also, does the headache mostly occur while you’re at work, or is it the same at home?
This dizziness and blood pressure spike is incredibly bad, it feels like everything suddenly gets foggy. There was a time when I was always like this at my computer at work, your body is really signaling to you, I’d say don’t neglect it.
Maybe the boss is right to keep insisting you go see a ‘doctor’? It’s so obvious that you’re not well; maybe you just don’t realize it. Constantly going to work while being sick can be a burden on those around you, I think. Resistance without checking it out seems a bit misguided.
Go directly to an internal medicine doctor for your blood pressure. They will perform a few basic tests anyway. Blood values, thyroid, etc. will be checked as well. If it’s related to your workload, you might also need support from a psychologist; check with HR if there’s one at the company.
