What my boss said worried me

I made a big mistake at work today, and my boss didn’t hesitate to point it out in front of everyone. I felt really down, and my teammates seemed to enjoy watching the situation. It really took a toll on my work motivation; what should I do to get past this?

it’s not nice to say it in front of everyone

I’ve experienced something similar; my boss and I were having a private conversation during a break. When it’s in front of everyone, you really feel humiliated.

You said to take the job seriously, but what kind of mistake did you make for it to blow up like this? It seems like there’s some missing information.

If you experience such a situation again, clearly state that you want to talk privately. Instead of swallowing it in silence, stay calm and express this request.

@hatconene actually the mistake was pretty simple. I sent the wrong document in the email but I corrected it immediately, I didn’t understand this reaction.

@soncaykaldi you’re right, but sometimes a person just freezes in that moment, and you can’t respond immediately.

I think it’s time to stop looking back, you’ve already made amends. But when you stay silent, this behavior becomes normalized; at some point, you need to draw a line.

so next time something like this happens, talk to someone from the team and ask for support. you’re feeling alone and more anxious.

Since it’s public now, what will change if I tell someone on the team about it? I think in that environment, it would have been better to ask them, “Why did you react so strongly?” Otherwise, no matter what support you get, it will just happen again.

This kind of response seems to me completely like a self-satisfying action. Sending the wrong document isn’t a big crisis, especially since you corrected it. It feels like they were waiting to elaborate on it. I wonder if something else had been bothering you before?

I think it could be something that has accumulated over time, but the issue is that everyone saw you going through something like this. In this case, does the issue of the wrong document seem like an excuse, or has receiving a reaction in front of everyone been normalized? The overall atmosphere of the environment is important here.
