Recently, my boss’s constant sarcastic jokes have confused me. I think I’m doing my job well, but this behavior is really wearing me down. My other colleagues have noticed this too, but they prefer to stay silent. Do you think this situation could lead to me being fired?
My old boss used to do the same thing, I think it’s just an excuse for him to constantly show that he’s watching you. I had openly said, ‘I’m uncomfortable,’ and after that, it stopped.
Are these jabs always related to your work, or do they touch on personal matters too? Depending on that, other things could be considered.
@kahvebitmeden there’s actually more to it than just work. For example, the other day he made fun of my hair, saying, ‘What’s this, like a kid?’ I felt pretty weird about it.
@aklimkaldi it seems like you are clearly giving in to this. If you laughed at it or brushed it off, I can say the guy has found your weak spot.
Such situations can fall into the category of harassment if they are repeated on a personal level; be sure to discuss the situation with HR and document it. If the joke crosses the line, instead of facing termination, you have the right to file a lawsuit.
@hatconene what does that have to do with anything, can everyone laugh at that? absurd
@biseydiycem I’m talking about not just laughing, but all the moments of indifference. Be reasonable.
Now the question is this: does the boss make these jokes in front of everyone or just when he’s alone with you? If he’s gaining power from the crowd, he might be belittling you to inflate his ego. If he’s doing it when you’re alone, there may be another subconscious motivation, and you need to act accordingly.
