I'm going to the doctor for the first time, is it normal to feel embarrassed?

I need to go to a gynecologist for my irregular period, but I can't express how embarrassed I feel. What if they ask me a silly question or judge me? This will be my first time experiencing such an examination, and I'm really anxious. How can I feel at ease? Is it normal to feel this way?

I also had irregular periods, the doctor diagnosed me with polycystic ovary syndrome. I was tense during the first appointment, but the doctor was very relaxed and didn't have any judgmental attitude at all. Just think about it; they see so many patients every day, it's normal for them.

You're not the only one going through this; I experienced something similar during university and was really stressed out. At first, everything discussed in obstetrics feels very private. But the doctor's demeanor was very professional, and once you trust them, you relax.

Why are you blowing this out of proportion? Why would the doctor judge you? I think you're getting paranoid just because there are a lot of people who interfere with their job. Society is constantly imposing things like 'people see female doctors differently' and so on.

Irregular periods can have many hormonal, genetic, or external causes. For this, control is really important. If you talk openly with your doctor, they can guide you correctly. So try to be as relaxed as possible.

By the way, let me add that I don't just have irregular periods; I also experience occasional pain. But what I'm most afraid of is the doctor asking questions like 'how are you protecting yourself?' I feel like it would be really awkward if I go with my family or something.

That feeling of "what if I say something wrong" is really bad; so many scenarios run through your mind. But trust me, the doctor will see you professionally and won't care if you say something wrong or strange. Just try to clearly communicate your pain or where you're feeling discomfort.

I think the main problem is more about being ashamed of your family than the doctor. If there is family pressure or fear of being "misunderstood," talk about it from the beginning. Because even if the doctor asks, their intention is not to judge or question you, but to understand you.

I think it would be more comfortable if you go to your gynecologist appointment alone. Before you go, write down your questions on a piece of paper. For example, provide information like "the pain is felt from here" or "there have been irregularities during these days" to make it easier for the doctor.
