Just a dress, but my mom went crazy!

Last night, when I was about to go out, my mom got upset about the color of the dress I was wearing. It feels like she doesn’t respect my taste either. This led to a big argument, and I got stressed out. How do you handle situations like this?

I think it’s gone too far.

my mom isn’t color but she was sulking because of my height. because I don’t wear long dresses. they never change, do they.

Why did you get hung up on the color specifically? Did it remind you of something else, perhaps?

@yazipsildim actually always wants me to wear dark colors. It felt like, why did you wear it when I saw the light-colored dress.

So what if it’s dark or light? If it doesn’t bother you, isn’t this a bit too much intervention?

@pazardandondum for families, it’s a matter of values, you see. When you say light color, it might carry a different connotation.

Honestly, mothers might not want to lose their areas of control sometimes. In such cases, you can calmly ask them directly why they expressed their opinion, without getting defensive. It’s important to seek clarity.

You can’t change her color, but you can make a small agreement with your mom about it. Blowing things like that out of proportion can be exhausting.

Did they explicitly explain why they don’t want light colors? Or did they just say something like “I don’t like it”? Because sometimes they have an underlying meaning but don’t articulate it.
