My girlfriend wants to meet my family, but I'm not ready

We’ve been doing great for the past three months, but the other day he said he wants to meet my family. I’m not feeling that way yet. He hasn’t been pushy about it, but he throws in some comments from time to time… I don’t want to hurt him, but I also don’t want to overstep my own boundaries. What do you think I should do in this situation?

I think it’s quite normal for you to not feel great; 3 months is a very short period. If it feels early for you, I think it’s perfectly natural to think that way. I introduced my partner in my previous relationship at the 6th month and later regretted it. If it doesn’t feel right to you, I suggest you take your time.

But I mean, look, they’re throwing shade… If this keeps happening, I think it might drain your energy a bit. You don’t want to hurt them, but they seem to be acting a bit pushy. What if you talked to them and clearly said you want to postpone?

I’m not an expert, but from a psychological perspective, in these types of situations, the boundaries of both parties are important. It’s natural that you’re not ready, but your partner might want something like this as a sign of seriousness. I believe if you explain to them in detail why you’re not ready through communication, they might show understanding.

You’re right, to be honest, I take the jabs a bit personally. But last week when he said, ‘this must be serious, we need to meet,’ I got really confused. It’s too early for me, but his insistence is throwing me off… Sometimes I wonder, ‘am I overreacting?’

This place feels a bit strange to me… Three months is really short, why would someone be so eager to get to know each other? I wonder if they’re planning something else under the guise of introducing their family? Or maybe they’re trying to prove themselves in some way. Think about their character, is this person normally so domineering?

So, clearly, you don’t want to push your own limits, but there could be another reason for such a serious reaction. Has he ever mentioned anything striking about his family when talking about them before? Maybe his family places a lot of importance on such things, and there might be pressure on him regarding that.

3 days is way too early for family and stuff… Nobody in our university would even think about introducing someone to their family, it feels really weird. I don’t think you need to exaggerate that much, it seems like you’re blowing it out of proportion in your head. Honestly, just saying ‘I’m not ready for this right now, but maybe in the future’ should be enough.
