My partner wants to share everything about us on social media

I’ve been with my girlfriend for 8 months, and thankfully, we didn’t have any trust issues. But recently, she started complaining, “Why aren’t you sharing our relationship more?” I’m more of a private person, while she seems to want everyone to see it. Do you think it’s wrong not to share this on social media, or does it come off as secretive?

I went through something similar too. My ex used to constantly ask why I wasn’t sharing photos or anything. At first, I thought it was jealousy, but later I realized that she was feeling insecure. It didn’t help me; we broke up in the end. But maybe you can resolve it by talking.

I think this privacy issue is very important. Not everyone needs to know everything about you. However, a similar thing happened with my friend; he started giving his girlfriend the cold shoulder because she wasn’t posting much. I think you should try to find a middle ground :slightly_smiling_face:

You say you want to see it, but it seems to me that you’ve kind of brushed over this part a bit. I mean, maybe they’re really afraid of hiding it. Living privately is one thing, completely shutting off is another. Have you tried to empathize?

Social media is generally used as a sort of trust test in these matters. Research also indicates that the lack of communication and transparency is a trigger here. The real question is: what is your reasoning for wanting to keep your relationship private, and what is the root cause of the desire to share it? You can try to delve deeper into these topics.

You’re right, when I said I didn’t want him to share all the time, he interpreted it as me wanting to hide him. But that’s not the case at all; I just don’t want to be too much in the spotlight. Also, his family is really into social media, and I think he’s influenced by them too.

But honestly, there may be another issue here for me. I mean, I started to wonder if I’m being cheated out of the thought that if I don’t share constantly. Even if that’s not the case, I would say take these kinds of thoughts seriously
