I bought a very beautiful dress for the wedding. It’s a slightly low-cut dress, knee-length. But when my mom saw the dress, she got really upset and said, “How are you going to go out in front of people wearing that?” Honestly, I liked it and think it looks quite classy, but now my mom’s words have confused me. In such situations, should I listen to my family, or follow my own taste?

5My mom always used to get involved in things like this too, so I’ve gotten used to it. But let me put it this way, if people think they’re going to judge you based on that dress, that’s a bit of their perspective. I think you should focus on how you feel. If you don’t feel uncomfortable, go ahead and wear it, but you know how gossip goes at weddings, so if you get bored, don’t blame anyone.
Whose wedding is it? If it’s a family wedding, I might say my mom is right, but if it’s a friend group, why are they getting involved?
@eminehan a relative’s wedding, and my mom is very close to the wedding host. She said she thinks the neighbors and others will definitely talk about it.
No one is going to leave the wedding to talk about you just because you’ve worn a deconstructed dress. @soran it seems like your mom is being overly cautious. Besides, it was already knee-length, what did she find too revealing?
This is actually a complete clash of two cultures. You value your individuality, while your mother is thinking about societal pressure. It’s very common to see such clothing conflicts in societies. Social events like weddings can sometimes lead to control over women’s clothing. If you wear something that is revealing but comfortable for you, you would not only explain to your mother why you made such a choice through conversation, but also continue to feel like yourself.
