My mother's obsession with diet is suffocating me

My mom buys healthy food on every shopping trip, and she’s even started weighing me. I mean, this pressure is really stressing me out. As someone who struggles with my weight, I feel bad every time I’m weighed. If this keeps up, I feel like I’m drowning. Is this pressure normal, or is she overdoing it a bit?

it’s not normal, right? :face_with_peeking_eye:

my mom was the same, she would come back from every grocery store saying ‘don’t buy candy, don’t buy bread.’ at one point we argued and thankfully she stopped checking.

How old are you and are you still living with him? This seems a bit unrelated, though.

@yazipsildim I’m 23 years old and we live in the same house because of the rent costs. Living alone is tough right now.

the girl said it outright, I don’t think she’s exaggerating at all. If someone weighed me, I would go crazy.

Healthy food is all well and good, but pressure can be problematic in the long run. Convince your mom to really get support from a dietitian to avoid any hormonal effects on her body. Being too intrusive is the wrong approach.

I was expecting a romantic topic from the title, but it turned out to be about the pressure of motherhood. In between, your mom probably says, ‘but weight is important.’ Why don’t you bring it up and address it clearly?

Your mom might be projecting her own worries onto you. Is she perhaps preoccupied with her own weight, health, or something else? Try to focus a bit on her; why is she so fixated on this?
