Girls, I know I need to go to the doctor about my sexual health, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I guess you could say I’m embarrassed. I don’t want to open up to my mom, and I can’t muster the courage to go alone. Is there anyone else who’s experienced something like this? What can I do to feel more at ease? What should I expect during my first appointment?

7I was really stressed before going to the doctor for sexual health for the first time. I had conjured up in my mind what they would ask and how it would go. But the doctor approached it so professionally and calmly that I relaxed. I mean, it’s a situation they’re really used to. What feels special to you is routine for them.
Taking that first step is really hard. Especially if you don’t want to tell your mom, just going alone is a whole different kind of stress. I’m sure you’ll feel anxious even in the waiting room, but once you start, everything flows much easier afterwards ![]()
I think you should see an obstetrician. If necessary, choose a private hospital; it will be more comfortable. When you make an appointment, if you tell the receptionist it’s related to sexual health, they can direct you to a suitable doctor. The first examination usually starts with a chat anyway.
Update: You’re so right that I’m realizing I’m overthinking everything the more I think about it. Especially about going alone. I’m still not sure if I should talk to my mom. It might be a good idea to start researching a private hospital.
I’m going to ask the topic owner something. Why don’t you want to open up to your mom? I mean, I don’t know you, but sometimes parental support can help in situations like this. Later on, dealing with other problems alone can create stress ![]()
Honestly, I can say that going to the doctor for sexual health is a process that starts with a short conversation and concerns both your physical and emotional health. A gynecologist is often preferred, and in the first step, an examination may not even be conducted. Your comfort is the priority.
Isn’t it frustrating that the things we feel so ashamed about are actually the most natural parts of our lives? As women, it’s our right to know our bodies, but there’s always this shameful perception in society. Courage is in your hands. This will make you one step stronger ![]()
