My cousin described the dress I will wear to the wedding as âtoo revealingâ when telling my mom about it. My mom brought up the topic and really frowned at me. The dress has open shoulders, but itâs quite elegant, and I donât think thereâs anything excessive about it. Do you think a person gets criticized this much within the family? Should I wear it without listening to anyone, or should I look for something else to avoid conflict?

8oh these wedding topics. I think you should wear it, we need to get out of the âwhat will the relatives sayâ phase. Does your cousin really carry that kind of weight? What did she do, go report it to your mom or something? Please ![]()
So, has your mom seen this dress, or is she just commenting based on what your cousin told her? Maybe sheâll be convinced if you show it to her?
@kahvebitmeden hasnât seen it yet, just from what my cousin has told me. Even if I show it to them, they seem like they might resist, but I donât know if I should try.
@makarnaoncesi so now youâre saying you âhave to wear itâ but if all hell breaks loose at the wedding, who will take the responsibility? I donât care what others say, but sometimes clashing with family is exhausting.
In such a situation, itâs important to maintain your individual preferences while staying in touch with your family. You could show the dress to your mother by trying it on at some point and explaining calmly why you like it. Honestly, many times a visual presentation can break down resistance. But of course, if your motherâs attitude is too firm, you might feel uncomfortable, and an alternative plan may be necessary.
Why did you start off with âWhatâs up? Havenât you told your mom?â You came in pretty strong with that title. Question how much you actually feel the need to explain it to your mom.
@soncaykaldi you donât always have to be in harmony with your family; you need to learn to protect your individual space as well. Even if all hell breaks loose, thatâs their reactiveness, not your fault.
I donât think itâs necessary, give up wearing it ![]()
