My aunt didn't like the dress I'm going to wear to the wedding!

Friends, I’m having a serious clash with my aunt about the dress I’m going to wear to the wedding. The style she wants feels too classic for me, and I want something more modern. Do you think I should follow her advice or trust my own taste and try other things?

Why is your aunt interfering? Is it your wedding?

I experienced something similar once too. My mom thought the dress I wore to my cousin’s engagement was ‘too revealing.’ I said, ‘It looks good on me, that’s it.’ The topic was closed.

Do you live in the same house as your partner? Or do they meddle in everything like this? :slightly_smiling_face:

@yazipsildim we live in the same house, and when I’m talking with my parents, she’s literally commenting on everything. My mom occasionally agrees with her. It’s even more stressful for me.

Okay, maybe your aunt has gone a bit far, but if you’re talking to your mom, it wouldn’t hurt to get your aunt’s opinion too. This isn’t such a big deal

@pazardandondum that’s not the whole truth. She should choose her own dress, does she really have to get her aunt’s opinion?

These situations happen quite often, you know. Actually, when you say ‘family pressure’, you shouldn’t think about it right away, but you have to set boundaries. If you talk openly with your aunt, say something like: ‘I’m going to wear this, it’s my choice.’ And sit down with your mom too; I think she’ll understand as well.
