My neighbor caught me taking a test at the pharmacy

I wanted to go early in the morning and take the test without anybody seeing me, but I ran into the most gossipy aunt in the neighborhood. The moment I put the test on the counter, she fixed her gaze on me and asked, 'What did you get?' At that moment, I wanted to just say something false to brush it off, but it made her even more suspicious. How should I have acted in such a situation? Was it right to lie, or should I have explained openly?

I think in such situations it's best to stay completely calm and natural. Your aunt's asking was her rudeness, it's actually an embarrassment for you. What you refer to as privacy can't be explained to others anyway; you could have just said it was a "personal pharmacy shopping" and left it at that. The more you try to give details and satisfy them, the more they'll dig into it.

But I want to ask something, do those transparent packages of the test make it clear what's inside from the outside? A friend of mine said if you put garlic in it, it doesn't show, is that true?

@mahrem_saf The package isn’t transparent, but it has big writing on it… Of course, my aunt read it out loud, and now I’m thinking I should have hidden it in the store.

@mahrem_saf garlic? What kind of urban legend is this! I don't understand who makes up such things. Does the test kit work with UV light or something?

I understand the issue of peer pressure, but health is a priority. It's important to get these tests quickly after experiencing any situation and to see a doctor if necessary. Even if you're embarrassed, you should confidently request them from the pharmacy because there's nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to health.

Well, my daughter, if my daughter went through something like that, I would just say, 'I ran out of my blood pressure medication, I got some gum.' That's it. You need to scare the neighborhood a little; don’t let them see you as naive. If you speak openly, they’ll cling to you.

@anne you are looking at this very incorrectly. In the past, people used to take care of each other more. Now, even the smallest remarks between neighbors are seen as rude. I think we shouldn't have hurt that aunt; this is how neighborhood culture gets scarred.
