When I talked to my new date about this, they said, ‘nature balances itself, it always has a solution.’ I felt like they were seriously suggesting a pseudoscientific method for protection. It was the first time I heard something like that. Do you think they are being serious about this, or did they say it in a joking manner? How should I respond in this situation, should I warn them directly?

8I think we need to talk openly about this. Believing in and acting on such unscientific things can have serious consequences. Nature is beautiful and all, but the risks of pregnancy are more real than that. It’s essential to use condoms or other protection methods.
I really used to believe in things like ‘it’s not a big deal if we don’t meet on certain days.’ Then when I went to the doctor, I got quite a scolding. Maybe your new crush believes in such urban legends too.
A friend of mine told me exactly this: ‘I already exercise, my hormones are balanced. There’s no need for protection.’ I’m still not sure if he was joking or being serious.
What kind of logic is this? If you take a risk just because the chances are low, it will happen to you. I don’t understand why people take the issue so lightly. There’s reason and logic; is protection really that difficult?
If your flirt says “nature balances,” be careful with this. It’s worth explaining protection methods, so you don’t regret it later.
Update: Guys, I think it was serious because they added things like “nature doesn’t destroy itself” and so on. They didn’t even make a facial expression that would suggest it was a joke while speaking. I’m totally at a loss for how to explain this ![]()
I think there’s a chance you might be overreacting here too. Maybe they were just joking or might not have explained everything clearly. If you address it directly, you both might talk more openly.
Such irresponsible behavior is already increasing in society. We hear that even married couples are sometimes not properly protected. You need to stop this from the very beginning of your flirting. If they are someone who will establish a family in the future, seriousness should definitely be expected.
