Do you really have to starve to lose weight?

I've recently been tracking my calories, but no matter how careful I am, I feel like I'm literally losing my vision from hunger in the evenings. My mom constantly says, 'eat less, starve yourself, that's how you lose weight,' but can't this be unhealthy in some way? I'm not a dietitian, but I'm worried that if this goes on, I'll fall into an unhealthy cycle. Do you think hunger crises are normal, or am I doing something wrong?

The same thing happened to me too. I was counting calories, but in the evenings, my stomach was really growling from hunger. My coach used to say, 'If you eat less, you won't lose weight, but if you eat right, you will.' It seems like those evening cravings lessened after I started eating protein-rich meals for lunch.

I know that experiencing these hunger crises can be really exhausting. I had also become unable to get up in the morning from the weakness; I had no energy for anything. If you don't feel healthy, I suggest you take a look at that cycle; it's truly dangerous in my opinion 🫠

Actually, feeling this hungry may indicate that you made a bit of a miscalculation in your planning. It's important to focus on eating the right foods rather than just eating less. While tracking calories, maybe you didn’t consider your carbohydrate-protein distribution? When I did that, I found I was less hungry.

For example, how do you eat in the mornings? If you're feeling this hungry in the evening, you might not have eaten much during the day. Have you ever tried setting a schedule and sticking to it instead of just following your mom's advice?

Darling, why are you depriving yourself like this? Your mother isn't wrong, but she's missing something. Going around hungry is harmful in the long run. If you eat regularly in 2-3 fulfilling meals, you won't feel this way in the evening. When you're hungry, food seems more appealing later, and that's dangerous 😅

Yeah, I might have planned a bit poorly. Sometimes I just brush it off in the morning because I don't have much of an appetite, maybe that's affecting me. I'm also counting calories, but to be honest, I haven't really paid attention to the protein and carbohydrate ratios. I guess I need to get a grip on these things.

But why have you done everything based on what you've heard from outside? You've started counting calories, which is good, but if you try to create a caloric deficit without finding something suitable for yourself, this is what happens. I think you've started with the wrong system from the beginning.

Maintaining a balanced diet is very important while creating a calorie deficit. If you don't get enough protein or if your intake of fiber-rich foods is low, your feeling of fullness will last shorter. Instead of a fixed ratio, it would be healthier to progress with a personalized plan. You might also consider talking to a nutritionist.
