I was going to take cover, but when I saw my neighbor, I froze like a deer in headlights

Yesterday, I went to the pharmacy with my spouse to discuss protection issues. While I was looking at the shelves, suddenly my neighbor walked in through the door. When they saw me, they gave me a weird look. Out of embarrassment, I grabbed the first thing my hand touched and left with something that looked like chewing gum. Now I feel like I can never go back to the pharmacy again. Is it normal to feel this embarrassed? How can I relax?

I think it’s a normal situation. I also went to the store once to get a sanitary pad, and I saw my old high school teacher there. I swear I also came out with a chocolate in my hand, just like you. But they say that birth control pills can sometimes accumulate in the body, so don’t take too many or you’ll get addicted.

@mahrem_saf the issue of dependency is totally wrong. These are medications, after all; if used correctly, they won’t cause buildup or anything. In fact, you shouldn’t take them without a doctor’s prescription. Everyone’s body is different, after all.

Why are you hesitating there, my daughter? Sure, some people might care about whether you’re pregnant or not, but nobody thinks about your health as much as you do. Are you going to let the neighbor’s words dictate you?

@anne this isn’t actually the first time. I had a similar experience before when I locked eyes with someone at another pharmacy. I guess I tense up a lot in situations like this.

The shame surrounding intimate topics in society is often placed solely on women. If a man were to enter the same pharmacy, no one would look at him. Protection is entirely a couple’s decision; there is nothing to be ashamed of. Don’t bow to such pressure.

What an unreasonable attitude this is. We don’t have to normalize everything just because people are going to get protection freely. I mean, what did your neighbor see at the pharmacy? After all, you were hiding like a criminal. No one would judge you.

A friend of mine once told me, ‘when I buy condoms, my eyes are on the baby food on the shelf.’ That’s just how our people are. I think you shouldn’t care, just go and buy it.
