We argued over salary negotiations, who is right?

I find the salary offered at my new job a bit low and I wanted to negotiate. But my partner said, 'how much more do you want to earn, it's already too much,' making me feel belittled rather than supported. Am I being too sensitive, or did they really make a comment that crossed my boundaries?

I think your partner was being unfair. When I started my new job, I also found the salary low, and on top of that, my family reacted by saying 'you found a job, what more do you want?' But I negotiated and got the amount I wanted; I didn't listen to anyone. After all, if you don't speak up, how will they know what you deserve?

I think there's something else going on here. Why is your partner so interested in your salary? I mean, saying "you're not spending it anyway" is kind of weird. Are you subconsciously covering your own expenses? Think about it 😬

What kind of logic is this? What do you mean by how much more do you want to earn? I really don't understand; everything has become so expensive. The idea that you don't spend is complete nonsense. No one can tell you what to spend.

Actually, this salary negotiation is something every company sees as natural. Here, your partner may have wanted to comfort you a bit but might have chosen the wrong words. But remember, asking for what you deserve shows neither greed nor is it wrong. Keep defending your rights with confidence.

Let me add this too, my love speaks a bit too directly about such things. But do you think it crossed a line if it seemed like she was really belittling it? I'm honestly not sure about the impression I got. I've started to think about it more now.

I've heard that when starting a new job, it's better not to question the salary too much, as it can create a bad impression. I wonder if your girlfriend thought the same? I believe there shouldn't be any tension between you two over salary and work.

Who said that it would create a bad impression? On the contrary, negotiating is a sign of professionalism. If they thought the salary was low, I don't understand why they bluntly say 'you're not even spending it anyway.'
