Last week, I made plans to go to the market with my boyfriend. But when I got up in the morning, I found myself standing in front of my closet, seriously. I don’t want to look too extravagant, but I also didn’t want to be too casual. So I threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, but my boyfriend said, ‘It’s just the market, I wish you had worn something more comfortable.’ Even about such a simple thing, sometimes not knowing what to wear drives me crazy. What do you think is a more appropriate outfit for places like the market?
Honestly, I think you’re overthinking what to wear for Sunday. I just throw on some leggings, sneakers, and a sweatshirt and I’m good to go. But when your girlfriend says she wants something ‘more comfortable’, does that mean she expects you to wear pajamas or something? That sounds kind of weird.
Does your girlfriend usually comment on your outfit like this? Is this the first time something like this has happened? I’ll make a comment based on that.
@senlikimyahu It’s actually not the first time… She said something while going shopping, like, “you’d look prettier if you didn’t wear so much makeup.” But she never says it in a bad way, always politely.
@soran you say it’s being polite, but the result is the same; it interferes with your outfit. I think you should sort out these kinds of details without growing too big, because even polite criticisms accumulate over time.
It seems like your boyfriend emphasized comfort in this regard, but comfort varies from person to person. A marketplace vibe usually blends more easily with sporty, everyday items. But of course, a jeans and t-shirt combo is also perfectly suitable; it shouldn’t be overthought.
Nobody here wears things like denim t-shirts when going to the market, honestly. Even my mom goes in her old sweatpants; going to the market should be comfortable. Maybe your girlfriend thought the same way 
@mahallekizi is right, but it also depends on what you’re used to. There’s no rule that everyone has to wear old sweatpants. I think it shouldn’t concern the dear lady.
