My girlfriend said, 'How did you live on salad for a week?'

I've started going to the gym for a week now and I've been eating only salad. I met my girlfriend last night and I told her about it. She said, 'Only salad for a week? Really? Is that healthy?' She might be right, but at that moment I defended myself, saying, 'I can't lose weight any other way.' But then I thought, maybe I exaggerated and am harming my health? Do you think I'm on the right track or is my girlfriend right?

I don't understand what young people are doing to lose weight these days. It used to be a matter of patience, not salad or anything like that. Your partner is right to be a bit surprised. But still, you are trying, and that needs to be appreciated.

To be honest, I admire someone who goes to the gym and pays that much attention. But they're right too; it's tough to get by on just salad, that's for sure. If your health goes downhill, losing weight won't be of any use. I think you should try to find some balance. How about adding some protein to your salad? Your partner might have said this because they care about you, so consider it from that perspective.

Wait a minute, you said a week, but did you really just eat salad from morning to evening? Or have you been sneaking in some snacks here and there? Because it's not that easy, right? How do you manage to work out with all that energy? It just doesn't sound reasonable to me.

@skeptik_hesapci a portion of salad in the morning, a portion of salad in the evening. Luckily, the workout isn't too heavy, but I know it'll be hard for me to keep this up anyway. But I couldn't lose weight any other way!

@skeptik_hesapci I think when a person is motivated enough, they will do it. Why are you questioning so much? The girl already feels defensive, there's no need to push further. But let me also say this, if what your girlfriend said is true, she might have said it just because she cares about your well-being.

Sweetheart, if I had the means, I would take you to the doctor myself. This kind of eating habit isn’t right; salad is fine, but you need to add something next to it. Put a boiled egg in the morning, or a bit of walnuts or something. If you do this for a while and don’t stop, then really check to see if it’s healthy. You can’t go on like this; don’t play with your health!
