My girlfriend got really stressed when her card was declined

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went shopping at a mall, and we found some really great discounts. But during payment, her card just wouldn’t work, no matter what she did. We had to complete the purchase with my credit card instead. To be honest, I felt a bit strange about it. For a moment, I thought, ‘Is it going to be like this all the time?’ We hadn’t really experienced situations like this before. Should I bring this up with her? Do you think I’m overreacting?

By the way, how did you feel when your boyfriend asked if he could use yours? Did you feel immediate tension or did you take it normally at first and then it felt bad? :woman_shrugging:

I think you’ve exaggerated. I mean, if it’s a one-time thing, it’s okay. It can happen to anyone after all.

It happened to me too. At first, I didn’t worry, thinking we’d sort it out, but later on, when it turned into me always paying, I got uncomfortable. After a while, you have to bring it up anyway.

Actually, this isn’t the first time… It has happened to me before. But usually it was with small amounts, this time it was a pretty big purchase.

@camkenari but is it normal to question the relationship every time there’s a payment issue? One can feel bad, maybe he didn’t like it either.

I want to ask something, if you’re uncomfortable with financial matters, it’s unnecessary to get into so much detail from the beginning. Because since this is happening again, it seems like it’s bothering you. What are you expecting?

@kahvebitmeden you mentioned earlier that it probably didn’t sit well with him either. So, I wonder if they even talked about it? Or did everyone just stay silent?

If this keeps happening, discussing money with your partner can be a major taboo and may cause problems. Financial responsibilities require clear rules within relationships. Communicate. Bilateral agreements are essential.
