My girlfriend looked at my plate and said, 'eat so little?'

I went out to eat with my girlfriend, and I was pretty hungry, so I ordered a bit more than usual. She turned to me at the table and said, 'Eat less, weren't you on a diet?' Honestly, it really killed my appetite. Now I'm thinking, did she say that with bad intentions, or is she just looking out for me? But I was a bit hurt; after all, I know my own diet. Do you think it’s justified to say things like that? Or has she become a bit too interfering in the relationship?

I don't think we need to make a fuss about such details. I mean, you've gone out and spent time together with your partner. But of course, you felt bad when they talked like that. I don't know, I've learned not to make such things a problem anymore. Understanding each other is what really matters.

'Did she really say, 'Eat so little, were you on a diet?' Did she actually construct a sentence like that? Because if I had heard it, I would have just laughed it off, but of course, if it touches a nerve, it's different.

@laf_alintilayan yes, that's exactly what he said. At first, I laughed it off, but then as I thought about it more, it really bothered me.

I think the topic goes beyond being funny. You already know whether you are on a diet or not; you can make your own decision. Such a sentence interferes with your freedom. We shouldn't normalize this, or it will lead to consequences.

I've experienced the same thing. One day, I was ordering with such appetite, and then they said, 'Weren't you careful about gaining weight?' I openly told them it bothered me and that they shouldn't interfere with my portion if necessary. It can be solved through conversation, but they need to pay attention.

@feminist haven't you exaggerated a bit? You've intervened and talked about freedom and stuff, is this really a situation that should be blown out of proportion? Maybe your partner is not really thinking straight, or they just said it for the sake of it.
