Lately, my worries have officially taken over my life. Normally, I don’t let small things bother me, but now I’m afraid of everything. My friends are telling me to ‘go to therapy,’ but it feels really strange to open up to someone. It seems like no one would understand me. Do you think I should go, or should I try to cope with it myself?

5I’ve officially experienced the same things. This anxiety you’re talking about starts to have physical effects after a while. For me, I had things like palpitations and sweating in my palms. I went to therapy, and I genuinely felt much better. At first, it feels strange, but that person is really there to understand you.
I think you definitely need to give it a try. There was a time when I thought, ‘I can handle this myself’ instead of going to therapy, and I just felt worse. Then I tried it, and it wasn’t such a bad thing after all. The person in front of you doesn’t judge or find it weird; it’s like talking to a dear friend, but more professional.
What’s this logic? Why would it be strange to open up to a stranger? Everyone thinks of a therapist as someone who will find solutions for you like that. No, this is also about you relaxing a bit. Also, your friends telling you to “go” is not without reason; they can see things more clearly from the outside.
I think these kinds of things indicate common anxiety disorders. If it has truly disrupted functionality, the thought of ‘I’ll solve it myself’ may not be enough. Even one or two sessions can make a difference. Therapists usually recommend either cognitive behavioral therapy or other methods in such cases.
I want to add this as well: I actually thought about going once, but just when I was about to make an appointment, I backed out. It’s like I’m afraid of feeling worse or that something uglier will come out once it’s opened up. I’m really desperate. Maybe it would be easier if I called someone and talked first.
