It feels weird to wear a short dress if you’re tall

I’m 1.78 meters tall and while I love long dresses, short ones are also appealing. But whenever I wear something short, my legs look excessively long, and sometimes I feel a bit silly. Or am I the only one focused on this detail? As a tall person, what styles do you prefer?

I’m experiencing the same things, I’m 1.82m tall and sometimes wearing a short dress feels too eye-catching. But then I realized that aside from sitting positions, no one really cares that much. Instead of choosing brighter colors, I picked simple patterns; for example, I felt more comfortable in a plain black mini dress. Maybe if you avoid patterned or overly attention-grabbing things, you’ll feel better too.

I think the issue isn’t just with the outfit. You seem to be putting too much pressure on yourself. Of course, your long neck draws attention, but that’s not a bad thing. I have a friend who felt just like you, and then when she wore her outfits with confidence, everyone admired her. I think you’re overthinking it a bit.

When choosing a dress for tall individuals, the key point to consider is selecting shoes that balance the leg proportion. For example, excessively high heels or ankle-strapped shoes can make the legs appear longer and thinner than they actually are, which can create a funny sensation, as you mentioned. You can balance this with shorter heels or flat sandals.

A few suggestions seemed really reasonable, thank you. I honestly hadn’t thought about the shoes part; I usually go for heels, but this time I could try something flat. And yes, patterned things might look a bit too much.

My ex said to me, “short dresses look better on tall people”; I literally threw away all those “do I look weird?” thoughts from my mind that day. Sometimes the things we obsess over don’t even cross other people’s minds.

No matter what Kim says, tall women have an advantage in fashion. Just look at a runway, it’s no coincidence that everyone is 1.75+ tall. I think your feeling of awkwardness is related to general perceptions; otherwise, everyone thinks ‘wow, they look so fit’ when they see you. A short dress is a piece that requires confidence, and when you wear it, it doesn’t look strange, it looks beautiful.

Now I’m going to say something, but don’t get mad: if you wanted to wear a short dress, you wouldn’t be so worried about it. It seems like you haven’t fully come to terms with what you want. Stop asking if it’s strange to have long legs, just wear it and go out; check how long people’s eyes stay on you. Sometimes you guys think too much.
