Should I wear clothes that emphasize my body shape?

I’ve been wanting to wear clothes that make me feel more confident for a long time, but it seems like my family gets a bit uncomfortable when I wear tight pieces that show off my body shape. Especially my mom says, ‘Why do you need to flaunt yourself like that?’… But I also think, why should I fall behind when everyone dresses like this on social media? What do you think I can do to strike a balance here?

I think your mom is completely right. If you go out dressed like that now, you’ll get reactions from your family, and people from outside will misunderstand you as well. Anyway, such things are not well-received in our culture. Plus, your mom is probably saying this to protect you.

Honestly, I was hesitant at first too, but since everyone dressed casually at university, I got used to it. My mom was saying things at first, but she eventually quieted down. The influence of social media is huge; if it’s bad, everyone seems to just adapt somehow

If your mom said something like ‘exhibitionist,’ that’s quite a heavy statement. But maybe your clothes really could be a bit too eye-catching? Everyone’s like that on social media, but we live in real life after all. I think you could be a bit more moderate.

The topic of clothes that highlight body lines could actually be a psychological effort of ‘perception control through appearance’. In other words, it might be a desire to approach the idealized image seen on social media. But remember that family conflicts can create insecurity in the long run, so if you openly share why you feel this way, it could lead to a healthier balance.

Actually, my mom isn’t always like that, but sometimes she reacts very harshly in matters like this. I don’t always dress tightly, but every time I do it a little, I get an instant warning. If they were just a bit understanding, nothing would happen. Also, I think women judge each other too much…
