I received a job offer abroad, but the salary is lower than I expected

I received a transfer offer from the company's overseas office. I'm financially comfortable, but the salary they are offering is even below my standards in Turkey. On one hand, living abroad seems appealing, while on the other hand, my partner says, 'It would be foolish to go for such a low salary.' What do you think, am I missing an opportunity or am I thinking logically?

My daughter, opportunities abroad don't come easy. I don't think it's something to give up just because the salary is low. You'll gain experience and build your network. If she were my daughter, I'd say 'go for it,' but you should consider the long-term aspects. So, how far can you get by living there on this salary?

What kind of logic is this? Just because the salary is low, it's considered 'foolish'? Maybe this job will boost your career somewhere? Not everything is about money; if your partner thinks that way, maybe think about whether it's bothering their interests a bit.

Is that low salary actually low according to the standards of that country? Inflation, rent, taxes... Sometimes, a salary that seems low on paper can actually be normal for that country. I think you should consult an independent finance expert to get a detailed calculation.

Let me add this: When I convert the salary there to TL here, it seems like a small amount, but they say it’s livable if I live in a place far from the city center. My partner says, 'You will leave me, at least make it worth it,' and this feels like pressure to me 😮‍💨.

So, did you negotiate this offer? Depending on the country, sometimes extra things like relocation and housing assistance can be discussed in international transfers. Maybe you can't improve the salary, but you can enhance the other benefits.
