Foreign offer vs salary discussion with my girlfriend

I received a great job offer abroad from a job interview, and the salary is very good, but my girlfriend made comments like, 'How much money do you want, don't be greedy.' I want to advance in my career, but feeling belittled while expecting support in the relationship really discouraged me. Do you think I am overreacting, or should I push the issue further?

I experienced something similar; honestly, my partner was so unsupportive that I accepted the offer and left. At first, I struggled a bit, but then both my career improved and I found the chance to have a healthier relationship. So, it's not just about money; it would be tough with someone who can't support your dreams.

I think you should sit down and talk about this situation directly. Explain to him how important this opportunity is for your career, but if he's not supportive, you need to make a decision on your own. If he's obstructing something so important, it might be necessary to question the relationship as well 😳

But maybe your partner could also be right from their perspective? Maybe they're afraid you'll leave them. Try sitting down with them and understanding why they said that; thinking of it as just belittling might be wrong. They might be defending themselves.

In these situations, both individual career goals and the values of the relationship should actually be discussed. Your partner may seem unsupportive, but their reaction could stem from their own feelings of inadequacy. You might consider seeking support from a specialist regarding this issue, as it is a common relationship problem.

I want to add this: I didn't really want to talk about the financial aspects of the offer; I was just trying to share my excitement about my career development, and that's when I got that kind of reaction. So, I don't think money is the issue, but that condescending attitude of theirs is the real problem.

I think it's very silly how she behaved. After all, your partner should have been there for you during such a big opportunity. If I were in a situation like this, I would directly talk to my friends and get support from them, putting my partner aside. If you want, you can look for new paths together later, but right now, your opportunity is what matters.

It really makes you feel awful, right? You've achieved one of the best things in your career, and you're sharing it with joy, but the person in front of you looks down on it. Maybe you need to directly tell them how lonely this makes you feel, saying something like, 'I expected you to support me.' That feeling of being belittled is truly devastating.
