My friend was fired today, but the boss only wrote âperformanceâ on the termination notice as the reason. I think they were a very hardworking person. My friend canât accept this; they were actually successful in their work. They arenât telling anyone anything. What do you think we should do in this situation? Should I offer support, or should I just let this invisible rejection be?
Iâve experienced something similar; the boss didnât provide any explanation. Later, I found out it was actually to bring in someone he knew. The performance excuse is always vague anyway.
Have you tried talking to the boss? Or could there really be another reason that was told to your friend?
We tried to talk before the coffee got cold, but they just said âcompany decisionâ and moved on. My friend isnât explaining anything in detail, theyâve closed off a lot.
@soncaykaldi donât think that everyone is doing it to get to know someone. Sometimes it could really just be a wrong performance evaluation.
They are legally required to clearly state the reasons for termination due to poor performance; check if there was a written performance evaluation form. If there wasnât, you may file a lawsuit.
itâs quite strange to just say performance.
If your friend has been laid off, they have a limited time to apply for rights such as unemployment benefits. Make sure they donât miss that deadline, even if they donât ask for details, remind them. There should be a documented warning process for layoffs based on performance, the personnel should check the records.
