I have had a wonderful relationship for 3 years, but my family is openly opposing it, using my partnerâs salary as an excuse. They keep pressuring me to meet someone better. Isnât love more important than anything else? Or is my family right, and am I the one who is mistaken?

5Well, I just experienced something similar. My family was also saying âlet her workâ for my spouse, even though the guy didnât have any issues, he just had a low salary. I think you should listen to your family, but also ask your heart. I didnât listen, and thankfully Iâm happy, but I always felt that pressure.
Families often have concerns related to security. Try to openly share your partnerâs future plans with them. Itâs more important to show a vision rather than just discussing salary in communication. This way, their anxieties may decrease.
Let me ask you something here. Could they be using problems in your relationship as an excuse instead of salary for your family? When someone says âthereâs something better,â does it always have to mean money? Maybe they see some other deficiency. Think about it ![]()
I noticed that my mom is actually more troubled. When she says, âShe should do her life with someone proper,â it seems like sheâs worried about things beyond just money, but she doesnât provide details. My dad straightforwardly cuts it off by saying, âHe doesnât have the financial means.â My boyfriend tried to explain planning and stuff, but they didnât listen.
I went through a similar process too. But to be honest, the salary issue kept coming up later on. We couldnât do everything we wanted, and my family said we were âright.â But was it overcome with love? It was. So, be realistic in your final decision.
