My old employer paid my salary incorrectly

I worked at my old workplace for 2 years, and I noticed it before I left, but it became clear after I quit: they deposited my salary incorrectly. Small deductions went unnoticed for years and add up to a significant amount. Now I’m wondering if I should pursue my rights legally? Or would it not be worth the hassle, and is there a statute of limitations? What do you think I should do?

I experienced the same situation; deductions were made from my salary at a company I worked at for 3 years, and I only realized it when I left. I filed a lawsuit, which took 1.5 years, but I eventually got my money. I would suggest consulting a lawyer; definitely pursue your rights. I ended up with a total of 14,000 TL.

I think this is very clear, you should stand up for your rights. Although I did an internship for 3 months somewhere, they didn’t even pay the last salary, and I didn’t bother pursuing it. But you’re talking about serious money, that’s just unfair.

Here the issue is not money, it’s labor exploitation. For 2 years, they have knowingly underpaid you. This is systematic; if everyone stays quiet like this, it will always continue. I think you should definitely file a lawsuit; this would set an example.

So how much has been underpaid in total? Also, why didn’t you ask before quitting the job? Didn’t you ask or check the documents?

Actually, this situation is quite common, especially in small companies. So it doesn’t necessarily have to be something done on purpose; sometimes it’s just an accounting mistake. Have you tried going to talk to the accounting department or your former boss? :neutral_face:

As far as I know, the statute of limitations for employee claims is 5 years. So if you haven’t been gone for that long, you can pursue your rights. But it would be healthier to consult a lawyer first.

Let me update you: it amounts to about 22,000 TL for the shortfall. I noticed it before leaving the job, but I thought they’d correct it in the ‘last salaries.’ I wanted to get in touch, but nobody responded. So it looks like I’ll have to file a lawsuit.

Sure, but filing a lawsuit involves a lot of costs and time; the results don’t come immediately. You might not even recover your attorney’s fees. Maybe if you call directly, it can be resolved more amicably.
