The photo my ex shared confused me

It’s been 6 months since I got out of that toxic relationship, but my ex shared a photo. I felt like they were trying to tell me something. Am I wrong? Is this level of transparency normal, or am I just fooling myself? Does social media make people this paranoid?

I was in a toxic relationship too, and my ex kept posting stories and such, like implying things. At first, I thought, ‘Does he still care?’, but he was just trying to get attention. I think you shouldn’t get too caught up either; if it’s not something that directly speaks to you, don’t chase after it.

This can feel pretty confusing, right? It’s like your brain keeps analyzing, asking “is this really directed at me?” as if you’re searching for proof. But honestly, most of the time, the other person doesn’t even care; we just blow it out of proportion in our heads. I hope it doesn’t wear you out.

But if that photo makes you feel like it’s directly telling you something, I think you shouldn’t react at all. In fact, pay a bit of attention to how you use social media. If you’re following them, either mute them or unfollow completely, because they’re already confusing you

Think about it like this: six months have passed, and you’re wondering “is it about me?” just because they are still sharing something. Maybe they’re just expressing themselves, or perhaps they’re sharing for others. I would say try not to see every situation as related to you; it can be a form of self-torture.

I want to add that the photo is actually quite specific. We went somewhere together exactly 2 years ago, and they shared the same thing. That’s why I’m feeling uneasy about it. It seems like they couldn’t have forgotten.

But there’s also this: the more you think “should I message him/her?”, the more you’re exhausting yourself. It might be better to let go of those scenarios in your head as long as he/she isn’t doing anything clear. Maybe he/she is just being nostalgic .

After toxic relationships, individuals often tend to overanalyze implications from the past. This can stem from both the emotional bond not being fully resolved and the triggering effects of social media. If these kinds of confusions are increasing, it may be helpful to consult a psychologist regarding issues like post-traumatic attachment or obsessive tendencies.
