Is my roommate being unfair about the rent?

I’ve been sharing a house with my roommate for two months now, but some issues have started to arise regarding rent. The house has two rooms, one is bigger and gets sunlight, the other is smaller and dark. I chose the smaller room because I don’t have much furniture, but she wants us to split the rent equally. Do you think this is fair, or should I talk to her? I also don’t want there to be any tension between us.

When I was at university, I shared a two-room apartment; one of the rooms was spacious and got plenty of daylight, while the other was just the opposite. Naturally, my friend who stayed in the larger room was paying a bit more rent. We talked it over and arranged it. It’s really quite simple, actually; I think you can work it out without any arguments.

And you chose the little one anyway, what do you want now? It seems like you accepted the inequality at first. It feels like talking now will just lead to a fight, I think you should think a bit and then act.

In such cases, the rent is generally shared based on the size and quality of the rooms. Normally, adjustments like 60%-40% may be considered reasonable. But it would have been better to discuss and make a decision before moving in. You might not be too late, just express it properly.

Let me add this as well, we made a quick decision at first and didn’t go into many details. I chose the small room since I haveå°‘ć—ć®č·ē‰©, but honestly, I became uneasy when the difference turned out to be this big. Still, it feels like we agreed on this from the beginning, and that also occupies my mind.

Well, we always have these kinds of issues. Why should they give more just because you chose a small room? Friendship requires sacrifice. Shared expenses, shared rent. Are we seriously going to calculate how much sunshine each person gets?

This %60-%40 comment is really strange. What does it mean that the larger one gets more? Is he going to say that he’ll charge rent according to the size when it suits him, and equal when it doesn’t? Wasn’t the condition of the room clear from the start?
