Girls, I’ve been living with my roommate for 3 months now, and overall we get along, but there’s one thing that’s driving me crazy: she has a habit of taking a shower at 6 in the morning. The showerhead makes a sound as if it’s falling from the faucet, it’s literally making me want to scream. I politely said, ‘You take a shower early sometimes,’ but she didn’t get it. Should I not put my health at risk, or should I confront her more harshly? What would you do?

6Have you thought about reducing the noise of the showerhead a bit? They have these suppressor tips; maybe you could get one and try it out? It might lower the noise, and you could get a little bit of sleep.
But in the end, taking a shower in the morning might be part of his daily routine, should he completely stop just because you don’t like it? Why should he change his freedom because of something that doesn’t suit you? When you get hung up on these kinds of things in relationships, there’s no peace left.
If you’re waking up to noise now, it can decrease your sleep quality in the long run. It messes with your biological clock, which might be why you’re feeling irritable. I think you should sit down and have an open conversation; if that doesn’t work, you could try using a sleep mask along with earplugs.
I missed this detail: the bathroom is very close to our bedrooms. It’s an old building after all, and the sound insulation is pretty much nonexistent. My friend takes quick showers, but still, the noise echoes a lot early in the morning. Earplugs might be a reasonable solution ![]()
I went through the same thing, a roommate of mine would wake me up every morning with a hair dryer. I spoke openly about it, they didn’t get upset but said, ‘Wow, I really was bothering you.’ Try explaining it by putting yourself in their shoes.
So, the house is a common area after all, everyone has different routines. Instead of trying to break them away from a habit, I think you should focus on finding solutions. Saying things like ‘I’m uncomfortable, change’ like neighborhood pressure can disrupt some things.
