Girls, I literally wake up from my sleep at night and go to the kitchen. Sometimes I finish off snacks without even realizing it. I wake up in the morning feeling regret, but I just can’t seem to figure out this habit of mine. Does this happen to you guys too? If anyone has found a solution, could you share it?
I went through the same issue at one point; I remember getting up at night and literally eating a whole pack of biscuits. Turns out I was consuming very few carbohydrates during the day. I added a slice of whole wheat bread to my dinner, and that stopped the attacks. Take a look; it might be related to what you eat during the day.
What kind of logic is this? If it were related to what you ate during the day, everyone would have this problem. I think the desire to eat at night is more of a habit, a psychological thing. Maybe you can take a little control of your willpower, just stop and think for a moment, before heading to the kitchen ![]()
Waking up at night to eat isn’t normal; it could be a case of ‘night eating syndrome.’ This condition is often linked to stress, irregular sleep, or hormones. You might need to check your melatonin or cortisol levels. However, I recommend consulting a dietitian or a doctor for a definitive diagnosis.
Let me add this as well, I actually tend to be quite picky about food during the day. For example, I don’t crave chocolate or anything like that, but at night, with an insomniac mind, I can end up finishing quite a bit of ice cream. Maybe my mom is right, it could be related to what I eat in the morning.
I experienced the same thing; I was especially craving sweets at night. I literally had hypoglycemia! It turns out I shouldn’t be staying hungry for a long time in the evening. Even if you don’t wake up at night, try having a bowl of yogurt or something like walnuts in the evening, it might help.
