I don’t know, my recent habit of sneaking into the kitchen for snacks while everyone is asleep has really peaked. I regret it in the morning, but in that moment, it feels so peaceful… I find myself asking, ‘Is this what happiness tastes like?’ Do you think this is a kind of addiction, or should I just brush it off as something that happens occasionally? What should I do to stay away from it?

9I understood the part about regretting in the morning so well… I used to have chocolate cravings at night too. In the morning, I feel nauseous, and there’s also bloating, so you literally start the day off on a bad note. I only managed to curb myself in the evenings with yogurt.
I’m experiencing something similar, and I’ve recently realized it’s due to stress. Especially when I’m alone, I find myself wanting to go to the kitchen and snack. Maybe something like this triggers you too? Have you thought about trying stress management or something like that?
But this feels a bit like a lack of control to me, no offense. I don’t think this is the real taste of happiness; it’s all about habit, really. That peace you mentioned that night is actually just a temporary distraction. You should look for a more lasting solution ![]()
How long has this been happening? I mean, have you been through a stressful period or something that triggered it, or has this habit always been there? I think if there’s a reason, the solution might be hidden there too.
This is actually something like emotional eating. Eating creates instant happiness for the brain, but the root of the issue is usually psychological; you’ve mentioned that it tends to increase when you’re alone. Maybe you could try talking to a counselor.
It’s like an update, but this situation actually started 2-3 months ago. There are some issues at home, and I end up closing myself in my room at night and snacking on something. Then in the morning, I get mad at myself, but it happens again. It has become a very strange cycle.
When you say there are problems at home, it makes me curious; could it be related to them? I mean, it seems like you’re looking for comfort in food in a troubled environment. I think the issue is not just eating habits, but there might be something else going on in the background.
It’s not a nice habit for my daughter to get up at night and eat junk food in the kitchen. Doing it while everyone is asleep is even more wrong. The day already goes according to a certain order, and if you deviate from that, you will struggle both in terms of health and discipline.
I had a very similar situation. It started when I transitioned to working from home. I would snack during the night while watching a series, and then when I woke up in the morning, my stomach would be upset. It was due to the intense stress, so one day I started keeping a notebook and writing down what I ate; that alone created awareness.
