My girlfriend teased me, asking if I made a snipping gesture at her face

We have been together for 5 months. I have small brown spots on my face, not too many but they are noticeable if you look closely. He occasionally jokes, “Did you get cut on your face?” To be honest, it bothered me, but I didn’t show it too much. Have you ever received comments like this, or am I just being sensitive, or has he really crossed a line?

From a man’s perspective, sometimes we joke about things like this without making a big deal out of them, because we don’t think of them that seriously in our heads. Maybe he thought you wouldn’t take it seriously either. But if it bothered you, you need to say it clearly; otherwise, he might misunderstand

I think it didn’t work. Making jokes about stains is not a nice thing at all. People should learn to set their boundaries, it’s that simple. You shouldn’t just brush it off as a joke if it bothered you, speak up and cut it out.

I don’t know, but it didn’t seem like a big deal to me. I mean, they might not have done it with bad intentions. It’s a joke after all; not everyone is ill-intentioned. If you’re uncomfortable, just say it openly, but I think it’s not worth making such a big deal out of it.

Jokes made about body image are a sensitive topic. Such comments have the potential to undermine the safe space in a relationship. If you don’t consistently express your discomfort to the other person, they may perceive this behavior as “acceptable.” You should set boundaries through healthy communication.

I actually said a couple of times that I was feeling uncomfortable, but it seems like he didn’t take it seriously and just said, ‘don’t worry about it.’ But I feel like he doesn’t have bad intentions, it’s just that it bothers me. I’m already very sensitive about this issue.

If you think you’re not being malicious, I still wouldn’t find it right. A person wouldn’t brush off something they’re sensitive about with such a simple joke. Explain again how it’s genuinely bothering you without hurting their feelings; if they don’t understand, there’s already a problem
