I’ve been dieting for a few weeks, but I get hungry before bed and I literally find myself in front of the cupboard. I tell myself I’m just going to have a snack, but then I regret it. Can I allow myself this much, or should I see it as completely ruining my diet?

6I totally understand that feeling of finishing in front of that cupboard, but honestly, my nutritionist warned me about nighttime snacks. They said the body has a harder time metabolizing what you eat at night. Why not try to distract yourself somehow? ![]()
I think this is a very normal situation. I’ve experienced things like this while on a diet too. If you’re feeling hungry at night, maybe you need to balance your meals a bit better during the day. Does this happen all the time, or just on certain days? ![]()
But I mean, how can I go on a diet and also cheat? I think you need to draw a clear line. That little snack you mentioned might unknowingly turn into a habit. Patience is everything, you know.
Actually, the issue is completely about listening to your body. If you’re consistently feeling hungry at night, it could be related to a hormonal imbalance or insufficient calorie intake. You should consult a dietitian, as a simple blood test can provide clearer insights.
As an update, I usually try to eat very lightly in the evenings, but maybe I need to eat more during lunch or something. When I wake up at night, I just can’t go back to sleep, and just thinking about food makes me feel like I’m in a crisis ![]()
To be honest, I think this is just a lack of discipline. I mean, my mother’s words are always in my ears, “there’s no harm in going to bed hungry, but getting used to being full is bad.” You can’t do it without showing a bit of willpower.
