I lost weight but I still don't like how I look in the mirror

I’ve lost 20 kilos in 6 months, and honestly, I’ve changed a lot physically. But when I look in the mirror, I still feel like I see my old self. Is there anyone who has experienced this? My body has changed, but the image in my head remains the same. How can I cope with this situation, or does it normalize?

I’ve experienced the same thing; I had lost 15 kilos, but for a while, I still saw myself in the mirror as I used to. It really feels like a psychological reflection. After a few months, I got used to it, but until then, my old image was always on my mind. Comparing my photos felt good; maybe you could try it.

I had the same thing; when I lost weight, everyone was saying “you’ve changed so much,” but I still couldn’t see any difference. It turns out my consciousness was still stuck in the old body, I realized it in therapy. Maybe you could consider talking to a professional.

This situation is generally something close to body image disorders; we can say it is a process of getting used to it. However, if it lasts too long, it’s beneficial to talk to a professional. Especially constantly remembering your old self or being unable to detach from it may indicate a deeper reason.

Let me add this, I’m actually looking at photos, etc., and the change is quite clear, but I just don’t understand what’s happening, maybe my brain doesn’t get it. Especially when I look in the mirror in the mornings, it feels really strange at first, for example :slightly_smiling_face:

I think the issue is entirely related to the environment; you work so hard to lose weight, but if nobody supports you, it can really bring down your morale. It’s normal to feel this way as you try to please others. Have you tried distancing yourself from those people?

If you’re still seeing your old self in the mirror, maybe it’s time to completely refresh your wardrobe. Get rid of your old clothes and create a new style. Changing the link to your image might just do the trick :smiling_face_with_tear:

This is a bit personal now, but do you think comments from people around you are making you feel this way during this process? For example, did someone say, “You lost weight, but you don’t seem happy” or something like that? Sometimes, external opinions affect us more.
